UEFA ban James Milner

Friday, November 1 – 2002
UEFA have banned rising Leeds star James Milner because he is too young. Leeds boss Terry Venables wanted to include the 16-year-old in his squad for last night’s UEFA Cup second round encounter with Hapoel Tel Aviv but was told he couldn’t.

Competition rules state players must be 17 and Milner will have to wait until his birthday in January before being considered for action. The England youth international was still included in the squad to boost his experience.
