I have recently visited the archives of the Football League in Preston and brought back more than 200 pictures from the FL ledger books and transfer list books. The picture below is from the 1895/96 season and I need your help in reading the bottom name. So, we have Wilkie, Whitehead and ? What do you reckon?
May 6: I have found a “J.A. Woodroofe” mentioned a few times in Liverpool papers during the 1890s and until further assume that this is the same person.
Latest: Another suggestion is “Wauchope”. There is a Don Wauchope, rugby player around in the Lancashire area in the 1890s, and a J.A. Wauchope could be a relative.

Woodruffe is a big possibility, its an unusual name the nearest one I can think of is Woodhouse.
