New players with Burnley F.C.

Saturday, August 4 – 1888
The composition of the Burnley team for the next football season has been in doubt ever since the close of last season. The committee have, however, been busy looking out for good men, and have been lucky enough to get hold of three, who should do them some good in the positions for which they are required. They are Poland, who played for Burnley just at the close of the season; Tait, of Newton Heath; and Yates, of Accrington.

It is, however, matter of general knowledge that the non-success of the Burnley team in the past has not been the lack of good players, but the chopping and changing policy adopted in regard to the positions of the men.
