Season review 1891-92: Heywood Central

May 21, 1892
The Higher Walton committee deserve the sympathy of every well-wisher of football. At the close of the season 1890-91 they were robbed of the cream of their players, and then, when they had got a promising lot of lads together and worked them nicely into order they were attacked again, and the committee were continually pestered for their players right up to the 30th of last month.

The result of all this has been that they have since the close of September gone from bad to worse, and in seven months only secured four wins, just the number they brought off in the initial 30 days of the season. Still they have the satisfaction of knowing that their team stands one place higher in the Lancashire League ladder than they did 12 months ago.

The first rounds of the English and Lancashire Senior Cup contests were sufficient for the team, Blackpool polishing them off in the former, and the Blackburn Rovers in the latter. The best performances of the eleven were the 12-2 win over North Meols, the 8-1 defeat they administered to Tranmere Rovers, 5-1 League win over West Manchester. The Mancunians had, however, satisfaction later on when they beat the Waltonians 7-0.

A peculiarity of the club’s record is that they secured their best win over North Meols, and that North Meols gave them their worst beating, 8-0.
