Blackpool v Liverpool.
The first meeting of these teams took place to-day at Blackpool, in a Lancashire League fixture. As the clubs had equal points, having won all matches, great interest was taken in the meeting, and there was a large attendance. Blackpool had their full team, and Liverpool were short of James McBride. Teams:
Blackpool: Lawrence “Lol” Wright, Edmund Morgan, Harry Parr, Frank Parr, Harry Davy, Harry Stirzaker, John Parkinson, Harry Tyrer, William Marsden, James Pittaway, Edward Parkinson.
Liverpool: Sydney Ross, Andrew Hannah, Duncan McLean, John McCartney, Joe McQue, Matt McQueen, Thomas Wyllie, John Cameron, John Miller, Malcolm McVean, Hugh McQueen.

The opening of the game was sensational. Blackpool kicked off, and with an onward rush made for their opponents’ goal, McCartney having to concede a corner in endeavouring to save. Then Liverpool made a try at goal, but the tables were turned again. J. Parkinson headed across to the goal-mouth, and his brother, on the opposite wing, registered the first goal for Blackpool by kicking through. Three minutes later Pittaway headed through a second, the spectators going almost frantic with elation.

For some time play was even, Liverpool showing pretty combination, but meeting their match in the home defence. Twenty-five minutes had teams kept at it, ding-dong, and the Blackpool men again worked into a dangerous position. Pittaway passed to J. Parkinson, and the trick was done, Ross being beaten for the third time. Play now slackened down, Wright only handling the ball on two occasions throughout the first half.

Half-time: Blackpool 3, Liverpool 0.

Liverpool showed up well on the re-commencement. By dint of hard work, and accurate combination the visiting forwards made their way to the home goal, and Wright was called upon to save some hard shots. During a close scrimmage one of the visitors shot through, but just as the ball passed through the posts the whistle sounded for hands. Marsden and Tyrer were next conspicuous for Blackpool, but the half was soon taken up to the other end, where some remarkably clever work on the part of Wright saved the home goal from downfall. Liverpool were not allowed to have everything their own way. Ross was called upon to save a long swift shot from Marsden, and Pittaway skimmed the goal post soon after. End to end play followed, both goals having narrow escapes in the same minute, thus showing the fastness of the game. The match concluded amidst loud enthusiasm on the part of the Blackpool supporters.

Result: Blackpool 3, Liverpool 0.
