Friendly v. Sheffield Wednesday abandoned

February 17, 1894
The terrible weather experienced during the last few weeks is causing the managers of the football clubs many anxious moments. What with ruined and meagre gates, and abandoned games, the present incomes of most organisations fall a long way short of expenditure.

Sheffield Wednesday were one of the teams who suffered in this respect on Saturday, and which would, under more genial circumstances, have benefited by their game with Liverpool. But so miserable were the elements that not more than one hundred persons assembled at Olive-grove to witness what would have been an interesting match.

After a short consultation between the representatives of the two clubs the fixture was declared “off,” and in view of the hard work before both teams next week it was without doubt the most sensible made of procedure to adapt.
