From West Bromwich to Zululand

April 30, 1901
Bishop Carter, of Zululand, can claim amongst other virtues and distinctions the honour of being a pioneer of football. Some 20 years ago, or more, the Bishop of Zululand was a curate of Christ Church, West Bromwich. Being an ardent disciple of the Association game, and, as was the regarded an accomplished dribbler, he associated himself with a little band of ‘Varsity and public school men, and introduced football and “soccer” into West Bromwich. The West Bromwich Football Club was inaugurated, and from this egg was hatched “The Throstles.” In due course the West Bromwich Football Club became the famous West Bromwich Albion.
