The task of widening Scotland-road has by now made sufficient headway to indicate that its effects will be not only to materially relieve the present congested state of the traffic, but also to improve greatly the appearance of the thoroughfare between Edgar-street and the junction of the road with Bevington-hill. The new shops which already have been erected are, if not all handsome, at least uniformly neat and clean, and in this respect they afford a striking contrast to those which they have supplanted, or which are still awaiting demolition.
