New football – Everything to be guided by convenience

August 14, 1915
Question having been asked as to the effect of the decisions of the FA Council hearing on the new conditions of football, the following instructions were issued on Saturday night: –

“Clubs may withdraw from any competition which is not convenient to them, but may not join another competition which is less convenient. Better results from gate receipts are not included in the term convenience.

“A professional player may play for his own club if convenient.

“If not convenient he may play for a club in the district in which he resides or works.

“If a player does not wish to play under either of the above conditions, he shall obtain the consent in writing of his own club before playing for another club.

“No payment or consideration shall be made to a club or player for the player’s services.”
