Football mascots

Saturday, January 9 – 1926
Football mascots are not so popular as they used to be. Felix, presented by the Scarborough tradesmen, however, was carried to every Cup match last season by Sheffield United. West Bromwich Albion always have a caged throstle on the club premises. Fulham’s more or less official luck bringer is Mr. Andrew Ducat’s bulldog.

After the war Newcastle United had a great dane for their mascot. For years a model of a cockerel has been perched high up on the stand of the Tottenham Hotspur ground. When Millwall opened the “Den” at New Cross in 1910 a supporter presented them with a massive brass lion with a football between its pawns.

The mascot, whatever, it may have done for the club, has been unlucky in itself, for it has thrice been stolen, and on the last occasion was missing for several months, when it was found in the canal by a boy bather.
