A sensation was caused in football circles yesterday by the announcement of the decision of the Scottish Football League Commission appointed to inquire into the affairs of Greenock Morton Football Club.
The commission inquired into an allegation that Greenock Morton had made an illegal payment to Daniel McRorie, the outside right, when he was transferred to Liverpool. The commission met twice yesterday, and after the second meeting it was initiated that the Morton club had been fined £150.
Moreover, the chairman of the club – Mr. Urquhart – was suspended sine die from taking any part in football. The manager – Mr. Torrance – was fined £25, and severely censured, and the other directors were severely censured.
