Mr. George Blackler, one of the founders and a former director of the Woolwich Arsenal Football Club, died at his home at Plumstead yesterday, at the age of 80. Mr. Blackler was one of those responsible for the club’s management when the team played at Manor Fields, Plumstead, and he was associated with such well-known players as Tim Coleman, Thomas Tindle Fitchie, Percy Sands, James Ashcroft and Peter Kyle.
Mr. Blackler was a member of the old Woolwich Board of Guardians, and was a decorator by trade. He was proud of the fact that, despite his age, he could climb ladders with the same alacrity as men many years his junior, and up to the time of his death was engaged in his business.
