Cyril Oxley’s fish and chips saloon on fire


Monday, August 9 – 1937
A fire occurred on Monday evening in the fish and chip saloon occupied by Mr. Cyril Oxley, the old Chesterfield and Liverpool footballer, in Hangar Hill, Whitwell. Mr. S. Ridgeway and other helpers were quickly on the scene, and, with Mr. Oxley were able to extinguish the flames with sand. The damage was confined to the cooking range.
