Reds want bonuses

Wednesday, November 1 – 1939
Liverpool have given a lead to the clubs of the Football League in relation to the re-establishment of bonus payments. Their directors at their meeting last evening decided to send a letter to the League asking that bonuses should be allowed in the Regional Competition.

In the letter it was stated, “It is our opinion that payment of bonuses will assist in making the game more interesting and attractive to the general public.”

I would that every one of the 82 clubs in the Regional Competition would follow the Liverpool example. The League Management Committee is waiting for a direct lead from the clubs.

Well, Liverpool have shown the way, and I hope all the others will do as they have done – write.
