Mr. William James Sawyer, secretary-manager of New Brighton Association Football Club for the past seven years, has died at the age of sixty-nine at his home in Seabank Road, Wallasey.
Mr. Sawyer was well known in football circles throughout the country and especially on Merseyside, where he helped to found the old South Liverpool Club, Wigan Borough, the Liverpool Football League, the Hospital Mid-week Cup, and other competitions.
He was formerly a director of Everton F.C., being hon. Secretary in 1918, and for ten years he was chairman of that club’s Finance Committee. He leaves a widow and two sons. The funeral will take place at Anfield to-morrow afternoon.
