Nel Tarleton, the British and Empire featherweight champion, has started training for his championship battle with Tommy Smith, of Sunderland, at Anfield football ground on Saturday, October 10. Nel opened his campaign a few days ago with road-work, and this will prepare him for the more intensive work which is to follow.
The champion has not yet made definite plans about his preparation, but I can tell you that he will train on Merseyside. This in itself is good news. I expect Nel will train at either Kensington Boxing Club or the Metropolitan Boxing Club – both commodious and well-equipped.
Then it is certain that Nel will give at least one public work-out at Liverpool Stadium before he heads for Anfield.
