Two goals up

Liverpool should accomplish what they just failed to do last season – win the county trophy. Last term the Reds lost the cup although forcing a draw on the last day against Manchester United. They faced a two goal deficit that day. Tomorrow the boot is on the other foot, for Liverpool go out against Bolton at Burnden Park with two goals already “in the bag.”

While remembering that Bolton were unfortunate to lose last Saturday I fancy that Liverpool, with Don Welsh back to bring additional power and leadership to the team, will improve on their lead. The main difference between the clubs is that whereas the Wanderers may be as good as Liverpool in approach work, they have not the Reds’ flair for snapping up goalmouth chances. In other words, the directness of Liverpool will, I think, prove the deciding factor and give Liverpool a cup to clean for a year.

Liverpool: Alf Hobson, Jack Westby, Jeff Gulliver, Stan Palk, Laurie Hughes, Jack Pilling, Billy Hall, Don Welsh, Cyril Done, Robert Beattie, Jack Campbell.
