July 30, 1944
All set for the two big attractions on Saturday – Dundee v British Army at Dens Park, and Edinburgh Select v Aston Villa at Tynecastle.

As well as the football, both sets of spectators will be entertained by military bands and displays. At Dundee the Army P.T. Corps give a show, and in addition there’s pipe and instrumental music by the bands of the 2nd City of Dundee Battalion of the Home Guard. Stand tickets for the game are going well, so charity should benefit considerably. Peter Craigmyle referees.

Here is the British Army eleven that’ll face the Dark Blues: –
Swift (Manchester City); Winter (Bolton Wanderers), Taylor (Wolverhampton Wanderers); Matt Busby (Liverpool), Carabine (Third Lanark), Mercer (Everton); Strauss (Aberdeen), Macauley (West Ham United), Don Welsh (Charlton Athletic), Black (Heart of Midlothian), Mullen (Wolverhampton Wanderers).

Official party with the team – Colonel Hartley; S.F. Rous, CBE, secretary, English Association; Major Sloan, who is in charge of the team.

President Douglas Bowie, SFA, is unable to be present. Mr. James Black, Forfar; Provost Lamb, Arbroath; Mr. John McArthur, Methil (N.E. League president); and Secretary George Graham will represent the SFA.
