The man that Liverpool missed

Tony Waiters’ brilliant goalkeeping, which ensued victory for Blackpool against Liverpool last week must have been a bitter pill for the Merseysiders, who tried to sign him when he was in the Seasiders’ Central League side two seasons ago.

Blackpool turned them down but soon afterwards sold Gordon West to Everton at a record fee for a goalkeeper, since when Waiters has been their first-choice. Many good judges still reckon Blackpool kept the best of the two.
