Soccer legend Bill Shankly was “comfortable” in hospital last night after a heart attack at his home. A hospital spokesman said the consultant was “quite happy” with the condition of the rugged Scotsman who took Liverpool from the Second Division to conquer Europe.
Mr. Shankly, 66, was at his home in West Derby, Liverpool, when he fell ill early yesterday. He was taken to Broadgreen Hospital. His wife, Nessie, stayed by his beside yesterday.
