For some time rumour has been busy with the probable transference of John Walker and Thomas Robertson, the Hearts’ left wing, to the English service, after which both have been reported as having a hankering.
For some days past the agents of the Liverpool club have been endeavouring to some to an agreement for the transfer of the players, and it is reported that they have been successful, the transfer being stated at £175 for each player, or £350 for the pair.
On the other hand, it is denied that the Hearts’ officials have agreed to the transfer, and the matter will be brought up at the annual meeting to-night, one well-known member saying that he will propose a vote of censure on the officials if they have agreed to the transfer. In any case, it is believed that next year will see both players at Liverpool. The club has offered them, it is stated, £4 per week all the year round, but Walker is reported to be desirous of even better terms. (Edinburgh Evening News, 31-08-1898)
